“In order to achieve this brief, Nike gave us access to their DNA (Department of Nike Archives) so we could capture some classic Nike Football nostalgia.”
This project was a result of a collaboration between Nike and Soccer.com to produce a pool of assets that could be utilized by both Nike and Soccer.com. The brief from Nike’s North America Soccer team was pretty simple - bring the new pack to life by showcasing the pack’s past in a modern way.
In order to achieve this brief, Nike gave us access to their DNA (Department of Nike Archives) so we could capture some classic Nike Football nostalgia. Because the weather in Beaverton, Oregon is notoriously bad in February we completed the DNA portion of the shoot and then jetted on down to LA to shoot the new pack on field.
The change in location was not solely a weather based one though; we wanted the juxtaposition of old vs new to be a strong one. As fun as nostalgia can be, the modern game moves faster than ever and I wanted that to come across in the imagery and in the videos we produced.
The turnaround time between product capture and asset delivery for each cleat was incredibly tight so we hit the ground running in LA. We teamed up with Nike LA for help with vetting soccer athletes to wear the product and quickly researched unique locations to shoot.
The run and gun nature of the shoot meant that the crew on this shoot consisted of myself as photographer/producer, Jordan as cinematographer/editor, and Shane helping out as an assistant. Who said bigger is better anyhow? We met the deadline and turned around work that I was really proud of.
