“Sometimes when we’re pushed to the limits of creativity and stress we find some of our best work and create some of our favorite memories. ”
They say “pressure makes diamonds” and wow, I can’t think of a truer phrase for this project. Set to the backdrop of the city of lights, this was an incredibly ambitious and collaborative campaign with the tightest of turn around times. To this day however, I have some of the fondest memories in my career thanks to this shoot.
Nike decided to launch Nike Football’s flagship footwear, the Mercurial Superfly and the Mercurial Vapor, to coincide with the Women’s World Cup 2019 in France. The stage was set for the product to be unveiled on the outskirts of Paris the day before the World Cup Final. We had received the sample product hot off the manufacturing line only a couple days before the product launch day so we were racing against the clock.
This was the first time the European and North American teams from Soccer.com had collaborated on a project in person together, and the integration could not have been more seamless. Egos were set aside and we dove straight into work. We shot the video over the course of two days and across numerous locations around Paris and Jordan edited through the night so it was ready for the launch the following day.
After handing off the assets and only a couple hours of sleep, the team went and shot coverage for the Mercurial launch event which featured Jadon Sancho and Andrea Alves. The willingness for late days and late nights, collaboration, and flexibility that the team showed on this project truly blew me away. Humans, we’re weird, sometimes when we’re pushed to the limits of creativity and stress we find some of our best work and create some of our favorite memories.
