“It lit a spark of passion in me to pursue authentic stories that impact people and it continues to fuel my work.”

We knew we wanted to do something special for the launch of the Nike US Women’s National Team kit for World Cup 2019. They are, after all, the most successful female soccer team in the world with an incredible following that looks to them as a source of inspiration.

The design of the home jersey was heavily influenced by the jersey worn by iconic 1999 team that won the 1999 World Cup in a packed out Rose Bowl in Los Angeles. Two decades have passed between this team and the current one and it made us wonder - who in LA was impacted by that win over twenty years ago?

My research led me to two female ballers based in LA, Chelsea and Hayley. Both players had had impressive collegiate/amateur careers and were now inspiring the next generation of female players through coaching in their communities.

The shoot took place across multiple locations in and surrounding LA, including the Banc of California Stadium, home of LAFC. We timed the launch for the video and campaign to coincide with the USWNT debuting the new home kits on pitch for the first time, in the same stadium we shot in only a week prior.

This project turned out to be one of my favorites in 2019 because we were successfully able to blur the lines between commercial and documentary storytelling on this project. It lit a spark of passion in me to pursue authentic stories that impact people and it continues to fuel my work.
